A view of the entire sky captured by the recently launched Fermi Gamma-ray Space Telescope shows bright radiation coming mostly from the Milky Way's galactic plane.

On August 26, 2008, officials announced the new name for the probe, formerly known as GLAST, and marked the occasion with the release of its first map of the full gamma ray sky.
