We are beginning to shape a tomorrow in which robots will walk and work among us. As they realize their own potential, how long before they cast us aside?

I wouldn't mind Moravec being eaten by robots.

Some say the creation of strong AI is beyond our grasp, some even say it is impossible, but I humbly disagree.

We are living proof that Intelligence can be created by lesser intelligence. Nature lacked intelligence for billions of years, and yet it produced some of the finest combinations in our universe via trial an error. This includes you and me. Who are we to judge our own capacity to play a part in this when we ourselves are a by product of this universal process?

I do not think it impossible for machines to achieve human level or transhuman level intelligence. I was just done reading a news found by our Thoughtbot on how Asimo can listen in on multiple conversations and make out what different individuals are saying. The ability to instantly download memories, knowledge and upgrade at a faster rate than biological evolution ever has, will give machine minds abilities we can only dream of. They're not at human level yet, but human ingenuity will get them there.

Suddenly Edwin Lands's quote (from polaroid) comes to mind: "Someone is going to make your product obsolete. Make sure its you."

From the most general perspective, evolution is usually the long internal process which changes structural properties of its carrier system. In this sense, we may observe that a system transforms itself in another one, over time.

Regardless of whether or not robotics ends up being accepted as an offspring of humanity, I would like *us* to be part of this new wave of evolution, rather than simply the creators of it. I don't plan on staying irrelevant in the face of accelerating intelligence. We should inherit the promise of technological evolution.

Not everyone will be happy about this, the future is uncertain. Fear of change abounds in times of uncertainty, but I believe humanity's technoprogressive nature will race, out pace and out-evolve those who would have life and intelligence stagnate.
