MAV (Micro Air Vehicles) like these are far closer to being a reality than than most might realize.
Tiny flying bots? We’ve seen them. Optic flow navigation? Seen it. Robots that can both fly and crawl around? Seen that, too. Not to mention the actual cyborg insects. (See the articles section)
How will the future look when swarms of robotic drones biomimicking birds and insects fly in the distance, or perhaps survive by mimicking trees and plants?
Perhaps we will hardly be able to tell the subtle differences in a drastically transformed flora and fauna.
Military applications seem like a narrow space of what the future of MAV will really be like. It really does seem like, once again, just around the corner, a brand new wave of epic evolutionary changes are on their way for "nature".
